Hello everyone, I got my snow blower mounted and working on my BX2200. It was tough AND expensive since my machine had no loader valve. My operators manual explains what to lube but not how. It says the gearbox oil level should be checked every month and 80W90 oil added if needed. I don't see a plug.

Thanks for the reply. The worm gearbox on my machine differs from the one in your diagram. Mine has a breather plug on top with a spring loaded cap. When I look in I can see the worm gear. Now my question is "how full should it be" Do I cover the worm gear with oil? Thanks again

If it's new, make a note of the fluid level, or better yet, take a picture. If there are no leaks, it should be full. Take picture to service department of where you bought it. ASk them. If necessary ask them to pull the plug, on a unit on the lot, to see what the level should be.. You don't want to over-fill small gear boxes, fluid expansion will blow the seals, then you WILL have a leak...

The vent-fill plug is on the top. It still should have a level plug on the front of the box. Mine has a recessed hex drive plug about 1/2 way up the front. Take a pict of the front of your gear box and post it here.

Maybe take another look at the service manual, or look up the manufacture & model # of the gear box itself. I believe most require a half full level so that there is room for the oil to expand when it heats up, but I'm a firm believer on reading the specs because it may be different.

Both of the gear boxes on my snow thrower and hog don't have a fluid level port.
