Mixing AG front with Turf rear tires?

Hi - I recently acquired a B6200 HST 4x4 with low hours, but left out in the weather most of its life. With winter coming I'm buying a back blade for snow and was considering getting AG tires for the front and using chains on the rear turf tires. Is this doable, or is there a formula for balancing the front and rear axle. All input is appreciated.

You probably do not want to mix tires on 4-wheel drive.
If the ag and turf tires are not the same ratio it will do bad things to your tractor parts as it is setup for matched tires.

the ratio of AG - AG is very close to TURF - TURF , the ratio of AG - TURF aint gonna do it .... BXRay is right - not gonna be a good idea......at all!!!

the trick in all ratios is rolling circumference on rears to fronts, any ration that is "off" causes serious bind in the tranny......if the tires are not allowed to slip:)

OK - thanks for clearing that up for me. The internet can be a tiger pit of misinformation - glad I found this place.

Just for a point of confusion, I have a B8200 that has ag tires on the back and turf on the front. It's 4x4 and came from the dealer that way.

Maybe they're wrong, but they've been on there for 30 years!

Turfs on front would be less of an issue since their traction rating is lower than the AG's. They would just slip through any problems. I would thinkg AG's on the front would kill your front wheel driving mechanisms if the back wasn't pushing the load properly.

I think some time back I checked the tires to see if they were as specified for 4x4 use. As I remember they were fine.

What about R4's on the front? 20x8-10 same as my turfs. I don't want to chain them and have to get around as well as up and down. I have 2 link chains for the rears and will have the tires filled before the snow flies. I'm also going to see if I can move the rear wheels out on the axles.

One thing I've noticed is tractors are a whole 'nother level of spending. I need to brush up on those welding skills I haven't use for 30+ years.

Get a siping/grooving Iron. Do some grooving (break up the blocks) and lot of siping (thin grooves).

Unless your in "major" snow country this will allow you to take the tires you have and set them up for snow instead of having to replace them with some other concoction. Lot more work ONCE on your part but ton less costly. Might do you just fine in Major snow country too actually.
