Thanks Bill. Just what I was looking for.
I have the Lowes version of that, and really like it.

I wanted corded with chains hangars, and pull cord switch. That way, can be moved around, shut off, etc.

I just installed one in my garage as well, and it's terrific! Instant on, and no more buzzing. Now I need a couple more for the m/c shop!

Skeets,

not making this complicated, but the distance of the light from the floor is really huge! At 1' the "brightness" = x .....if you move it to 2' the light now is 1/4 of the original! and then at 3' it is 1/9 of the original light.....and so on.

look at this page to understand more about :

http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/features/yba/M31-velocity/1overR2-more.html

so if you were to hang your lights down from a 10' ceiling to lets say 7' ....the light would be almost twice as bright.......but then again, thats why the ceiling was built at 10' - right? more headroom!

But to answer your question - the "light brightness" with LED is rather impressive - I would say you will see MORE light........one reason, as the T-8 get older they seem to ....."dim" and the ends darken and loose a little bit of light....where as the LED will be the same until the LEDs quit entirely!

I was in SAMsClub yesterday.....they had the 4' LEDs for 37 bucks.......I wanted them, but I figure -- by next spring when I need em - they will be cheaper!!!!

I have been reading this and it goes along with what I need to do. When I built my pole barn shop my work area is 24X 30 with an 8 ft ceiling. I put 4 flood lights along each side aimed toward the center and a row down the center going straight down. It was alright but not as bright as I thought it should be so last year I took the center ones out and put a row of T 8 daylight fixtures in. Still was not bright enough and after reading this I went to HD and bought one 75 wattLED flood light to try it and what a difference. I will be changing them all to LED soon. Now for the T 8's I looked today and with the LED replacement tubes the lummins is not as high on them as the reg T8's. Would they still be brighter?

i'm installing two led yard lights at each end of the header in the center of my 30x30' shop. approx 14' high... i have some 150w equiv led spots aimed from the corners 11' high and a couple 4' led cfl replacements over a couple work benches. if that isn't enough, the shop is wired for several 4' double cfl units, will install led's. about halfway from the ridge to header going lengthwise. on both sides, about 12.5' high. i may need sun glasses when i do a paint job.....
