I have a 4310 that I just changed the filters on. When I got the tractor it was missing the secondary filter. I replaced both filters with new. Now when I run the tractor around 2k rpm, the filter light comes on. I pulled the box apart and checked for restrictions and to ensure I had everything installed right. Everything looked good so I installed the secondary only and ran it. No light. I installed the primary. No light. I installed the cover and I get a light. This tells me that something is amiss with the sensor or some other part of the electrical system. Anyone had any luck cleaning them. Hate to just start throwing parts at it. I need to use the tractor a bit this weekend. So if the intake is for some reason, restricted, are there any ill effects to some light use this weekend? Sorry this is my first diesel and I tend to be a bit on the cautious side.

I don't know your tractor, but check there is a hose from your sensor connected to both sides of the filter housing to measure it's differential pressure. If a hose is missing it will put the light on early.

There must be a "pressure" switch inside the air flow that is telling the computer that the air is restricted......as you mention.

maybe that is WHY the secondary was missing to begin with?:)

you replace with same type of air filters?
Is there something inside the cover to cause a restriction?

If I read you right - you have a light with primary AND cover ? If you put old BACK on - with cover will the light come on?

and I would say yes - a restriction is pure flow of air, engine will not run correctly if air is not right.

maybe the sensor is bad or getting ready to go...

A quick look at parts shows your sensor screwed directly into the housing. Run 2 filters, and check for inlet restrictions.

I already pitched the old primary filter but it appeared to be the same. Never had a secondary to compare to. It all fits like it should so I am assuming that I have the correct filters, I got them from the dealer. The main hole in the air box is clear of obstructions. The light doesn't come on with both filters installed and the lid to the box off. I assume that this is why there was only a primary filter installed. I am guessing the sensor is messed up. I will tear into it tomorrow and maybe try to clean the sensor. Just figured I would ask here to see if this is an issue that someone has seen before. Thanks for the replies.

My dad *just* had a similar problem on his. If I understood correctly, he got the light, washed the filter and it didn't turn the light off. He bought a new sensor and I haven't heard anything else, so I assume that did the trick.

Problem fixed!!!

My sending unit on the filter housing had a rotten wire that was resisting current. Carefully cut back the rounded shoulder on the sending unit, of the suspect wire, to its base, clean and solder the wire together.

My light no longer comes on.
