Don't know where to post it, so coach can move it if he wants to...

Spent 2 hrs, today on my bradco stump grinder attachment, replacing teeth. Wonder what a dentist wouldda charged, LOL?

Anyway, the teeth I have are 7/8" square, and mount into a 5/8"hole, with a fine thread crush nut. 14 teeth in 2 hrs is a lot of time, but never having had one with a pocket type hole, I was wondering what kind of time the pocket type teeth that go on with 2 or 3 allen head screws takes on a medium sized wheel?

I almost could replace the whole wheel in that time, I'm thinkin...

On the bright side, I got the teeth offa the internut, for $7.35 per, which is almost half what the stealer er dealer wants fer them. As to quality, they had some brazing or soldering material sticking up proud of the bottom of the teeth, but I figger that'll grind off pretty quick, with use. If not, live and learn.

I plan to sharpen the teeth I took off, on my green wheel, and re-use later, as the teeth are just rounded at the cutting edge, maybe 3/32 or so, some worse than others.

Anyway, here's a video of a similar grinder, as mine, only real difference is mine is mounted to my ASV RC30. I know how you guys like tractor porn, so have at it:

Thanks for the vid. I like the Bradco vids better (even though they are different than your model).

Okay, so you won't get flamed (by me anyway, but I'm hoping skeets will take up my slack :D) for not posting pics, but I'd really like to see pics of your setup, as well as the tooth arrangement, and the wear on them.

How much grinding did it take to wear down that 3/32"?

Are you thinking of fabbing your own wheel to take the pocket-hole type tooth?

Here is the tooth: http://www.everythingattachments.com/Bradco-Stump-Grinder-Replacement-Teeth-p/br-sg-teeth.htm I didn't know that Bradco wants $39 bucks for it, LOL...

If you picture a piece of 1/4" thick stock, with a square punched into it, welded above a 5/8" hole, that's the pocket. Tried to find a picture of the wheel, itself, but bradco's site don't have a picture of the mini skid stump grinder.

As to how much grinding, Don't know for sure, I bought the cutter used, from a rental co, not much wear, I guess I may have put 25-50 hrs on the grinder.

Not thinking of fabbing something that big, I have an old walk behind unit, that has a similar size wheel, and the older style 2-3 bolt allen screw teeth. Mainly wanted to see amount of time it takes to change the old type out, and the average wear to expect out of them. A lot of this subjective, due to soil type used in, rocks hit, operator technique, etc...

Those teeth look flappable in the image. Rotate 180° and put on the other side.

I'd probably also sharpen them from the backside, not the face, taking the steel down with the carbide. You can probably get a few more sharpening cycles outta them.

Took a look carefully at them, today. Only 4 are really dull. Those are the ones that are mounted parallel to the diameter of the wheel. Tried sharpening them on the green wheel. Spent about an hour on the 4, kept dipping them in water, as they got too hot to hold. Think I'm about halfway there on the carbide, will have to make a relief cut on the steel, as the carbide gets worn down. What I will do when I return them to service is to rotate the shortest, to the angle and side positions, and put less worn teeth in the high wear positions. Maybe I'll color code the teeth to keep track of them. More of a winter project, when I got nothing else to do. Gotta get me some dust masks, still spittin green lungers, tonite...:D:D
