I have a Z725 with about 200hr, just bought it in April. I am on my 5th set of blades! the problem is the blades are wearing in the center of the cutting area at a rapid rate. I have resorted to sharpening them about every 10-15 hrs just to get some extra life out of them. I have been mowing for over 25 years and have never seen this issue. the dealer says that he has had no other issues but the mower is a new line. I had originally thought maybe it is a bad batch of blades but after talking with a friend that has the same mower, he is now having the issue too. I also ordered a set of Oregon blades, they have been a tic better but still have the same wear as the factory blades. Has to be a design problem right? kubota customer service is horrible with no phone numbers to call, only email. anyone have any ideas what I can do from here? or anyone having the same issues? any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, Skeeter

It would really help if you can get some pictures of how the underside of the deck is set up, and the wear damage to the blades. It sounds like what you are describing is either not enough spin rpms for the blades compared to the mowing speed. Or something in the deck design is causing all the clippings to pool around the center of the blades and not allowing the grass to get spit out.

Or are you talking about the center hole where the blade attaches to the spindle wearing out?

most people wont ask,at the risk of offending someone, are blades installed correctly?grass side down? its a simple mistake we all make at least once? right?
sorry I asked.

blade speed too high? would be a design issue.

I hope we get some picks so we can see what's going on.

Here's a pic of what happens when a dumbass punk kid (not my son) uses your mower. I believe he couldn't decide if he was mowing grass, crushing rock or cutting trees. Needs less to say that was the last ride on anything I own.

Once-on every mower-maybe not all but a couple. Never twice on same mower.

If its like those pictures, cutting grass or blowing grass near or off the gravel will wear them quick. Slowing mower a touch may make all the difference. Blade tip speed above supersonic is bad on a couple levels. Throw some sand in there and its the nature of the beast. Given enough time i can sandblast a hole through a piece of steel

That kid must have taken lessons from mine  After the second time he chewed them up, I had him pulling the deck and fixing his mistake and working off the new blades. Plus a little extra for the pita factor ;)

If it had been my son we would have had a chat about what was done wrong and what could be learned from the mistake and then I'd supervise him doing the repair. This however was a kid in the neighborhood that we were trying to help out and maybe give him some guidance but in the end he was a lost cause.

You know the old story about leading a mule to water...

For the center to be wearing, the grass would have to be avoiding the tips (pushed down etc.) and popping back up to be cut by the mid section of the cutting surface. It sounds like it's a vacuum/airflow issue.

Short of 'looking' under the deck as it's mowing, across the grass and seeing if it is pushing it down, the only thing I can think of is painting a section of grass with some high visibility chalk or water based spray paint and mowing over it then stopping and looking at the blades. The tips should have more chalk/paint on them than the center. That would also serve as proof to the dealer that they have an issue with the design.
