My B6000 is missing the oil bowl. While searching for one, I ran across a B6000 on eBay (where else?) that had a non-original air filter. This could be fabricated, but my guess is it's off of a later model Kubota. Can anyone identify it, or suggest how to fabricate one? It seems like it would work better than the oil bowl filter setup. Heck, one of you may be the owner of this fine machine.

That donaldson filter from ebay is the ticket. A couple adapters, steel, pvc or rubber and a mounting bracket. Will also help silence intake noise.

Looks like a typical K&N filter....

The bowl that you describe is a housing that keeps all the dust and what not from being attracted to the filter all at once.

Your factory filter could get clogged up and you would never "see" it unless you took the cup off and removed the filter.

These are direct bolt on - and could be washed quickly.

Measure you pipe OD as it comes out and see if you will need a small extension and then as Tooljunkie said - getcha some pvc or rubber hose and adapt it to fit. Filters are less than 10 bucks via ebay and the pipe and other parts should not be much at all. Could find a filter too at your local car parts store.

here is one for a 3" .....little too big, but do a search for your OD of the pipe.

Thanks for the advice 85Hokie. I did exactly that. I measured with an OD tape measure and it was awfully close to 1.25". After poking around on K&N's website, I found and ordered one and it was a perfect fit. It is model 62-1390. I think it is for a motorcycle application, but it is now the shiniest thing on my tractor by a WIDE margin. Sounds better too. Now on to the next project...if anyone has a snowcaster and front electric clutch assembly laying around, let me know.

Hi Chyduke,

This looks like a great way to get rid of the oil bath mess. Have you found any problems with it? Is it noticeably louder with it?

Thanks,
Charlie

Oil bath air filter is FAR FAR superior in dusty climates.

Also K&N is well noted to be extremely poor filter "at first" by offroaders. Once it is dirty then it filters better than many aftermarket filters (but not better than oil bath) .... it uses the collected dust stuck to the surface of oil sprayed on the the filter as part of the filtration. Problem is then you never really know when to clean it..... Except knowing not to clean it when you will be getting into a dusty environment soon.

Coach,

having had an oil bath filter on my ol ford - it did work well, problems that arise is viscosity of oil used and volume of oil used - two variables that if not in "spec" would be very bad news for your engine!!! And if allowed to sit a while unchanged, man there is a mess in the bottom of the can ! BTDT:p

also - studies have been performed over the years that "paper" filters - filter the air better......but that too is a little misleading, the VOLUME of air that a high performance engine sucks in can flow through a "paper" element "better"

the oil baths are still used in reallly dirty/sandy areas of the planet!

here is a good reading on the differences and why each is better than the other:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_filter

I think the bottom line is that too many people could not, or would not change the oil - it was too messy ......so the "paper" ones came out and made it mo' betta and simple for the average owner!;)
