OK guys I have a question, last week I was up in the GWN, and stopped to top off the tank at the same place I always stop on 17, and they run through tons of gas every day, so I don't think its bad gas. After getting filled up I started the truck and the check engine light came on after a short time. oil OK Temp OK, charging OK. And the light would come on and flash like crazy every time I got gas. It ran ok though thinking back it seemed a little sluggish on some of the hills. Anyway I had to run into town and on the way back it went out, I was going to get my Nephew to put his scanner on it this evening. Started and shut it off several times light comes on when you click through the ignition spots so its not burned out, and start and it don't light.
So Im wondering if diesel in the gas tank may have been the issue, any ideas?

Skeets - what kind of truck?

I've gone through some fuel tank vent solenoids in Chevy P/U's. They're in a bad spot from the factory, and tend to get fouled up in our BEAUTIFUL northeast weather.

Of course, the other culprit can be your gas cap.

Just thought maybe an EVAP code hit when you filled up.

Good luck!;)

Yeah shes a chevy,, the cap is ok it was replaced not long ago with an OEM one to pass PA emissions... Oh where oh where did Chevy put this fuel tank vent solenoid??? This newer stuff drives me crazy unless you have 5k worth of tools and computer stuff its not much fun to work on them any more:eek:

It's near tank and low. I haven't changed mine, so I'm no help beyond that - sorry. Last one was bad within a year - couple under warranty.

When mine have gone, the check engine light stayed on. Cleared a code for one, and came back on within 30 minutes.

If your light is off now, don't worry about it. But if it comes back, might want to consider the solenoid as a cause.

Good luck!;)

I've had the fuel cap do exactly that on one of mine.
Would need to know make, model, year, options, to be able to pinpoint the vent solenoid.

Now all that said, go to any of the larger automotive parts stores and they will be able to read the computer code and give you an exact on what the issues is. ;)

Yeah - my last one, the cap and solenoid were bad. 1 year old 2013 Chevy truck - but the cap was never right.

My first was maybe (?) a 2003, then a 2007. I think both the light came right back on, even after clearing the code.

With Skeets, as long as light's off, I'd just keep and eye on it. Especially since it came on after gassing up. Like Wolfman said, could just be the cap.

My son put fuel in my chev Silverado once and my bride called with the same crap happening. I drove a half an hour home and had an epiffany on the way home, tightened the fuel cap and all was well!

I am serious one time, also put a dent in the side of the truck( one time) and put a 4" stone chip in the windshield ( one time)!

Guessing egr. Evap issues will never affect performance. Egr, however will. A chunk of carbon comes loose and wedges pintle open.

Depending on year,08 and up equipped with flex fuel may have picked up on some gas dosed with too much ethanol. Saw an issue with an impala a while back, fuel ethanol sensor was up at 19%when the most ethanol is supposed to be 10. A few tanks of premium and all was great.
