Pardon the newbie question but I just took delivery of a BX25D as my first tractor. After mowing grass (roughly 2 hours) I went to hook the backhoe back up and the power beyond fitting was hot enough I had to use gloves. Is it normal to run that hot? Transmission in high range, MMM, running about 3100 rpm.

When I use my BX25D's hoe for a bit (60 minutes) and I get off the seat - I often place my hand on the cylinder to "get a grip" - it is nice and hot, now it does not burn my hand, but then again I dont leave it on the cylinder long.

Get you one of those thermo laser guns - (20 bucks) and shoot me a temp, and I will tell you what my temps are. But the fluid and connectors will be hot.....but there are different degrees of heat too!:)

I noticed the cylinders got warm on the hoe, just kind of surprised me that the power beyond line got that hot by just mowing without the hoe on. It didn't burn me but the coupler was beyond warm.

Oil is constantly circulating thru that line, and that fitting, when the machine is running. That fitting acts as a bit of a restriction, which causes more heat.

Another opportunity for the IR heat thermometer to prove its usefulness. Sometimes you can track the hot spots, and see if there is a cause for the heat buildup. Also, You don't want the hyd oil to get over 250 degrees F or it will start breaking down, and causing a hyd pump or motor failure...:D
