Forward gear disengages and the alarm goes off, reverse works perfect. Sometimes this clears up and works perfectly, other times can not get forward gear to ingage. Dealership at first could not find the problem, then told me i had major clutch and tranny problems. I dont beleive that because it works perfect from time to time. Has anyone had this problem or have any ideas?

Are you asking about a hydraulic shuttle shift? The kind that you don't use the clutch but move the F / R lever only.

If so, using cheap hydraulic oil can cause all sorts of problems. Change the fluids and the filters as well to see if the problem goes away. It is especially noticeable when the transmission is warm or hot.

Yes, it will be expensive. My "little" M7040 uses 15 gallons so a M110 must take a lake worth of fluid.

I literally do not even know what your tractor looks like, but I will tell you what I experienced on my M6800. The same basic thing was happening. Sometimes took off and worked perfect. Other times nothing. If I put the shuttle into gear with a little more force, it would go. Other times, no. Look for an adjustment down below the handle. I'm sure somebody will jump me because I don't know what I'm talking about with your tractor, but my tractor had a threaded sleeve with 2 outside retaining bolts on the frame just down below the shuttle handle. I took those 2 bolts out and the sleeve allowed the lever to go in farther and my problem was instantly fixed.

And DO NOT just assume that the dealership would have found such a simple thing as that adjustment. Over time, I walked into three different dealerships and asked what was wrong. They would hint toward the handle needing adjustment, but nobody could tell me where that adjuster was. I finally found it on my own.

Some of the larger M series tractors have a removable floor plate. Under the plate is a cover with a bunch of solenoids that control the shifting. There are a bunch of screens that filter the fluid going into the solenoids. I have heard they clog up at times. Not sure if your tractor has this setup, but may be worth looking into.

If you remove the shift cover on top of the transmission, under the floor plate, the solenoids are on the bottom side of the cover, i think. Sorry I am not certain, but I only heard of this one other time. When you remove the solenoid from the cover there is a small screen that filter the dirt from getting into the solenoid. Take all of them out and clean them. May be worth a try, but not sure it is the problem.
