What kind of chainsaw you have?

Where I come from, it's not do you have a chainsaw, it's what kind of chainsaw to you run??

I find many are loyal to a brand. Mine is Stihl, but have had other makes over the years.

This is my current arsenal. Stihl 046 Magnum and MS211. The 046 is a "big boy" saw, but that little 211 is a joy for cuttin' brush.

I have a couple of toys; a 20" Ryobi and a 14" 40V battery powered Ryobi. It does ok on pine but I need a good Stihl for some bigger stuff I have.

I started with a tiny Skil, maybe 10 or 12" bar. I was probably the same in age. We were farmers - - you started young...

About 1980 the new Stihl 056 Super came along!! Hold the phone - - -Now that's a saw!!

Still runs strong today - but she's a heavy brute. I used to cut spruce pulp with it - couldn't today. Bitch to get old.

Made me a Stihl guy to this day....guess what my trimmer/brushcutters are??

Just watch the ethanol gas - bad news for these machines....

All stihl, here. Favorite little saw is the MS 200T limbing saw. Hate how the alcohol in todays fuel affects all 2 strokes, now. I run mine on Naptha, or Coleman camping fuel it's cheaper, in the long run to run high $ fuel through them, than to put new carbs and hoses on them...

Hodge - I do, and I'm with you. My buddy is the same, too, but everything is Husqvarna.

It seems like there is so much brand loyalty with this type of equipment. One guy is all Stihl, the next is all Husky, and never shall they mix.

I have an OLD Mac 10-10 pro out in the barn a beast and heavy as the dickens,, Bought a new Husky 350 it screams, and cuts like crazy,, damn thing self destructed second year,, I keep putting it back together,, maybe its time for a new one

Husqvarna 372XP 24" since 09 Aug 2014 and a Husqvarna 359 20" since 29 Dec 2004. Run skip tooth chains on both. I have fell a lot of trees with the 359, most over 60" at chest height. We heat our house with a wood burning boiler.

I have all ECHO power equipment, just a small chain saw for firewood. It's not that I don't like husky or stihl, just don't like the local dealer . My local echo dealer is great to deal with and I've had great luck with it. I love the power head that can switch between pole saw, wacker, and broom.

I have two husqvarna 445's with 18" bars. First one I had for three years. Loaned it out got it back with no compression, bent chain adjuster, bent bar, and a chain that looked like they tried cutting a bundle of rebar with it they ran it for a week on straight gas. Not sure about the rest. ended up replacing it and keeping the junk one for parts if needed. Have had this one for two years now. Had a small stihl years ago that probably was a lemon. Won't buy another one personally.

I just recently got a hand me down husky 365 from my fil. runs like a champ. I just need to lift some weights and get strong enough to use it. Fil is a logger... it was one of his little saws.

I have a couple of small Husqvarnas for cutting down dead trees and clearing the road. Earlier diydave said he had trouble with alcohol in the gas. There are a lot of boat and ATVs and snowmobiles in our area and one of the gas stations agreed to carry non-alcohol gas. Some marinas also carry non-alcohol gas as a lot of outboard boat motors have problems with the alcohol. I am in the process of eliminating all the alcohol from my small engines.

Husky is my preference. Fixed a lot of stihls, but never any major problems.
Ethanol in fuel is killer on small engines.
Our ethanol enhanced fuel is not more than 10%. I call BS. I scanned an impala a while back, ethanol level according to the sensor was 19%!!

Customer switched service stations and went to premium gas and issue went away.

More ethanol requires bigger jets.

I use a Stihl MS180 with a twelve inch bar.

It was the largest I could buy as larger chainsaws require a government permit which is not easy to obtain. The reason for the permit system is because of the use of large chainsaws in illegal logging.

Initially I ran it on Castrol 2T but since changing to the super expensive Stihl 2T it has been much easier to start. This may be because the Stihl 2T has a very neat measuring and dispensing system and so, most likely, my oil to fuel ratio is more accurate.

I avoid gasohol like the plague. It has cost me a lot of time and money in repairs to classic cars and motorcycles and I am not going to put it in a 2 stroke motor that runs to 10,000 rpm and is subject to infrequent use.

I have engaged in plenty of risky activities in my time but for some reason it is the chainsaw that gives me the jitters.

It would cost a lot less to run if I could master sharpening chains. I have the right tools but just cannot get it right.
