Hey guys. Have been thinking about buying a tractor for a couple of years and I am trying to decide if the 1870 is adequate or if I need the 2370 ( or if either is adequate).

I own 4 acres in the mountains of NC. The tractor will be used mainly to maintain a 1200 foot gravel road (scrape, etc.) and plow snow in the winter. We occasionally get 12 to 15 inches of snow, but most of the time it's in the 6 inch range. I will also use it for hauling mulch, etc. but not cutting grass.

I plan on getting an FEL, front mounted snow plow (still trying to decide on this), and a box blade. I know the 1870 will take longer with the snow, but time won't be an issue since I will be retiring soon.

Do you guys think the 1870 with the described attachments is adequate?

I will probably only use it to plow snow 3-5 times a year. The driveway will probably be "dressed up" 10 times (after every heavy rain) or so a year.

Appreciate candid feedback.

the 2370 costs what? 2k more????? I would get exact cost from the same dealer and or other dealers...

personally I would really look at the BX2370...........unless it is a lot more......I think you will see that the more HP will be what you want and need.

MHO, I have never heard of any one complaining about more HP,, for the difference the 2370 is the only logical choice, that's why I got the 2360 :D

I own two BXs and really like them, but if I was going to have only one, I would go to a B. Between the two you mentioned I would go with a B2370 and get weights as well as filled rear tires.

I would also add wheel spacers and skid plate/HST fan protector from BXpanded or Bro Tek.

Back in 2005-08 I had a BX2350 and did the same chores you are mentioning. My driveway was hilly and I used a 48" box scraper to do the work. I always ran out of traction (industrial tires) long before I ran out of power.

I moved and sold that tractor. Didn't need it in my small house.

In 2012, I bought a larger house/property and bought a BX1870. The new house is level ground, and I was mowing/bush hogging. Didn't buy a loader. The Bush Hog was a 48" "Squealer" and the tractor is/was a little too light for it, and in heavy grass was SERIOUSLY underpowered.

Now, I am awaiting delivery of my new BX2670. I didn't want to move to B because most of my hours are mowing, but I didn't want to miss out on power anymore.

My vote - 2370. I took the "go big or go home" route on mine.

I have a bx2370-1. I used just the FEL to remove snow. I have a 900' driveway and used mine to move a foot of snow.
it gets the job done and having locking 4wd in case I get stuck.

If your moving crush stone for the lane, then I would definitely go bigger. B or L series. Or, just get yourself a good used farm tractor. When moving heavy media or grading it, there is no substitute for horse power and mass of the tractor.

Just remember its not a 988, moving stone might take a bit longer and require a little more thought, but ever think the BX is just lawn mower, take a look around construction sites and you see orange, mostly BX's, a bigger machine aint always the answer
