Hydrostatic in-line strainer screens B7100HST

I have a new to me 1980 B7100hstD, and I am in the process of changing all fluids, etc. Don't know where she has been, maint wise. Everything seems OK, so far, but it does not look all that well maintained either. 800+ hours on it.

So, just now changing hydro fluid. Old stuff looks ok, but I cannot seem to break the bolts free that house the screen strainer (behind both return lines, one on each side, yes? What size are those nuts?). I am afraid of bending lines, stripping and rounding bolts, etc.

I did change the canister fluid filter. Before I really tear into (or tear up) things to get two those screens is it worth it? or shall I refill and move on, and wait for a later, perhaps better time than mid winter?

Did you remove the footrest/floorboards? I found it much easier to get to the strainers with them out of the way. As for size, I am not sure. I used a big 3/4" drive 6 pt socket. My set is not metric but I found a size that would fit close enough.

I have a B7200 and the bolts are 26MM. I was in the same boat, mine were very hard to get off. Cheater bar and some cussing and they came off. Good luck.

Thanks, all. I do think they are 26 mm (I had a 27. . .so stopped). I need to go buy a 6 sided 26 mm I guess. There are two, yes? One on each side?

Might try from below - but I will take a look at those footrests. It needs doing, so, ok.

Got the right side done (it was clean). Started rounding off the left side using a 12 pt 26mm (but I could not find a 6 pt anywhere).

Anyway, fluid is back in. Now it will have to wait for a better day. In the middle of a snow storm now.

Jerry, you might be able to find a 6-point 26mm impact socket.

Do like kubotasam suggested, 3/4" drive, 6 point socket. I think 26mm will come loose with an 1 1/16" socket (but double check). Has to be 6 pt.

I will indeed be on the lookout for such a thing. My sockets are Kobalt, and Lowes seems to stop at 24mm in both impact and regular. But I will find one.

When the weather improves, I will re-drain the tranny and take another shot at that left side.

i recall doing both sides near back of B7100HST and cleaning the strainers in Varsol. I wonder when
how many years one can go without changing since I use maybe two hours total a month.

If you keep clean fluid in it, another 40 years.
