I stepped off tractor for a minute and engine ran away, racing and smoking . I shut off the key but it kept revving until it finally died. Dealer has it now and found crankcase oil on top of cylinders. They say it has compression lock whatever that is. I'm waiting for kubota to tell me what thier plan for warranty is. I'm told by dealer they are asking kubota for either a new engine or new tractor. I will post when something is resolved

There is also some kind of problem with freezing of breather, for which there is an update. How long have you had your tractor, and when you were in the woods did you see any lights to indicate it was time for a regeneration? If you look at your screen now, are you at 100% for the dpf?

Please let us know what it turns out to be, several of us have new tractors and need to know how to handle them in cold weather.

My tractor was brand new and delivered on 12/3/2014. It has 19 hours on it. No warning lights came on

So sorry that your new tractor is not doing well. Two 3901's have had similar sounding problems, it has been brutally cold. Your dealer should make it right under warranty.

The dealer is now telling me Kubota said for them to examine engine for damage, put it back together and give it back to me. They said the pushrods aren't bent so engine should be ok. I told them I want a new engine or my money back. They said it revved to 3850 rpm and the computer shut it down. Does anyone else think there may be internal damage? I asked to speak with regional rep. Dealer is contacting them to say I'm not satisfied. Ugh, sounds like the run around is beginning!

I think the thing that would first concern me is how the oil wound up on top of the cylinders in the first place. I would ask them if the cold weather fix kit, a mandatory campaign recall had been installed on your tractor before you got it or not. If it had not, that might help make sure that the problen doesn't happen again. If it was above freezing when it happened, or if you had the kit on already, then that points to some other problem besides the breather/ oil separator freezing as a source for the oil.

I have the impression that a runaway engine causes extra wear on the engine even if the push rods aren't bent. It might depend on how long it took for the computer to shut it down. Maybe some of the other guys can comment on this. And then there is the effect of all that smoking on the dpf/doc system. They ought to replace that too. You should feel satisfied that they have restored the tractor to new condition.
