I recently bought a new cheapy $600 3 point post hole digger for my B3030C but go through the bits like crazy. In the past I had a digger with carbide tips, two prongs on the plug in portion and four or five carbide tips on the cutting edge. I think they just plugged into a receiver on the digger and from what I remember they used some sort of rubber oring to hold in place where as my current tips use two bolts to hold them in place.

Wondering if anyone sells these (Penco seems to be the name stuck in my mind) in a kit with the bits and receiver that can be welded in place as to change over to carbide tips.

Maybe someone can send me some pictures of how their's mounts and I can build the weldable receiver portions myself.

Where can I buy these tips? Thanks in advance for any help! John

Welcome to the forum:) :) :)

Your thinking exactly right from what I know. Penco is the brand and maker of the stuff we use most of the time at work. Some of the recent stuff has gone to a spring steel collar and ring but most of their stuff is the rubber retaining method which works very well.

I have not done a conversion but I don't think there would be too much trouble to do it and your right....save a lot of trouble dealing with inferior bits. If you do a google search for Penco I'm sure you can find them. They are still in business and we have lots of their equipment. IF you can't find anything I can check with my parts man at work, I'm sure he has a connection.

Post up some pics when you do this. I'm sure many can benefit from this exact improvement. ;)

I don't no if this will help you or not, I'm not exactly sure about what your looking for.

I ran across a PH digger last year, man asking $100 for it. I get it home and try it out. It wouldn't even put a hole in my yard. Just sit on top of the ground and spin.

I found new cutting edges and new point for it at Tractor Supply. Countyline is the brand name and it says they are made out of carbide material. I hope this will help you.

I used the ones in the pics. They have held up very good so far.

I hear you one the sand/clay and ours is more chert rock on this end of Ga.

The pics don't do the point much justice. It's beefy. The side cutters are the real trick. As soon as they hit the dirt you better be ready. It's going down in a hurry.

I know that every one of us probably do things differently but I don't use my PHD at a high RPM. I will run at about 1,000 or 1,200 RPMs and I hope that if it was to hang on anything I could get it shut down before it gets ugly. Anyway, at this rpm if I don't limit how fast it goes down it tries to stall the engine. I would like to see what they would do on a good digger. Mine is cheap and light weight. I had 10 holes that I needed to dig and I figured it would work for that.
I have no idea how many it's dug and the side cutters still look new. They made this cheap little digger bite like a big dog.
