Hi All , I recently bought a used d1105, and I am having a hard time getting it started. It will crank over but does even give a kick. So I am getting ready to do a compression test to see what I have here , and after removing the glow plugs, I'm not sure of where the plugs seal. Do they seat at the top of the head, just below the hex, or deeper in the head where the electrode ends?

Thanks Rick

Welcome to the forum Rick. I can't help as I haven't worked on that engine before but I am sure that one of the great people here can.

Normally they seal on the small taper on the shank just above the electrode portion of the glow plug. So about an inch +/- up from the bottom end.

Thanks Kubota Newbie, That is not much of a contact area, but I guess it is all it needs. The top portion of the head looks a little cruddy ,so I was wondering if it should seal there. One glow plug was tight coming out around the electrode.
Maybe carbon build up. Anyone here ever use a reamer to clean up the glow plug holes?

I wouldn't suggest reaming them by hand, they are a sealing surface that needs to be right to be able to seal, if they aren't sealing then it probably needs new glow plugs and it might need the head milled.;)
