Kubota for acreage - tractor virgin - Alberta, Can

Hey Gents!

House on acreage should be done in spring. Up here in north Alberta we have got a lot of snow and it takes me 3-4hrs to clear snow with my can am. Think it's time to get me a tractor.

What do you recommend for acreage?
5ac, 300m of driveway through trees.
Snow removal
Landscaping
Mowing
Needs a cab, -44 degrees C today!

Thinking something like a L3560HTSCC with snow blower and loader?

I love mine, see Cal 270's thread below for pros and cons of tier 4 engines. Complex technology but makes it easy to use well. I have 15 acres and it is more than enough tractor for what I want to do.

Like a cadillac after my 1950 Ford 8N, but which still runs after benign neglect for 30 years.

I think you should start out with a trainer tractor, maybe a 30 year old b7100.

Cdika, don't let NIW discourage you, he's only kidding....maybe the b7100 is like my old 8N, and after shopping around a lot I ended up with the 3560 and fewer attachments in the budget because it and a blue tractor were the only compacts I ran across that had the fuel fill at ground level. I had had enough climbing over the loader bars on the 8N with a 5 gal can to pour fuel in a tank reaching over the steering wheel. Try that in felt pack boots. None of the newer ones have the loaders attached that way any more, but it is still challenging for me to lift that much. No rotator cuffs left. The other reason I picked this tractor is the Kubota dealer has been servicing my Ingersoll and I have been quite happy with their work. So if you find you like the dealer near you that is a plus.

My first tractor was an L3800 which was a great tractor but no cab and my driveway is a mile long. The second one was a B3200 with the snowblower on front, big bonus but no cab. A month or so ago I bought the L3560 and this will be my last tractor. Sitting out there for hours and not having to wear heavy gear and boots is what everyone should have. If you can afford it by all means go get it but be sure to watch out for over hanging branches. This tractor is a cadillac of tractors.

Well he is in luck, I am one province over and have a 51 Ford 8N with a Blade for sale as we speak. Runs great! Lol

I will even throw in the chains and insulated coveralls.

wow an 8n with blade and chains and insulated coveralls,, now that what I call a good guy,, LMAO All I know about the GWN is a friend up in Northern On. said it was -32 the other morning, and it was RFC,, I asked what do you mean RFC,,, She said Really F&^$&( Cold,, So yeah a cab would be the ticket for sure if you can swing it.,, Yeah a SB and a FEL on new property, yes Sir that would be my choice,, And don't worry about these guys we enjoy having fun and we don't bite,, much,,lol ,, The 3560 is one fine machine, and the teir 4 stuff, I wouldn't get my panties in a twist over it you have anew dealer and two years worth of warranty,, I say go for it my friend

Gonna head to Kabota to see what kinda deal I can get. I'm up in Grande Prairie, have received a few feet of snow last few days. Trades ppl can't get into acreage and I can't keep up with my quad. Gonna have to get someone with a tractor to clean snow until I can get one.

Sounds like a good choice and I sure like my Grand L. You might look at a B3350 with a cab, won't be as comfortable of a ride as the GL, but cheaper and should do everything you described.

Nah, NIW, black quilted bibs are way more chic this time of year However, I may wish I had taken the advice of my real farmer friends (you know the kind that drive giant combines with stereo in the cab) and gotten a heated airconditioned cab.

Sometime I'll tell you guys about the time almost 40 years ago I took a powder puff mechanics course and thought I'd adjust the timing on my truck and didn't get something tightened down, and on the way to a job interview in a nice skirt it slipped...

Good luck shopping cdika, I think there are several models that will do the job. I am real happy with my choice but I have kind of different priorities having become a little old lady when I wasn't looking.

It was an F350 4 wd, and the only way I could reach anything in the engine compartment was by standing on the bumper...I got a lot of honks from people going by..Now that I am ancient I can remember it with a smile, but at the time I was mortified. Cured me of trying to work on my truck.

Stopped in at Kubota yesterday, had the L3560hstcc and L4060hstcc in the shop, all said and done its a few grand upgrade for the l4060 for the extra 5hp and added cylinder. Got a quote on the l4060, mid PTO kit, front loader and bucket and snow blower.

Snow blower was more than i thought i would be, couldn't find the part number online so dunno if its a older model or what, number he gave me was for a 74" L series L4479, could only find 74" L2674. May have to ask him again about it.

Gonna decide what to do soon.

Hi cdika, glad they have a good assortment to look at. It occurred to me as I squeezed past my 3560 that one of the down sides of this particular model is its size. If you are still building your new place, it will take up of the order of 20 feet by 6 feet to store. That's with a FEL and bucket, and a back blade on. I am supposing your snow blower might take up a similar amount of space. And a concrete floor would be nice. Makes it easier to store all those other implements you'll want. I have not tried clearing out the gateways with my back blade yet, but that long profile may make maneuvering in tight corners harder than with a smaller tractor. Maybe you could design your plowable parking areas etc around the wheelbase of your tractor And then there is the clearance you need for the ROPS. Mine is in the haybarn for that very reason.

Things I don't see on your list is a back blade and a ballast box (you will need it for loader work)!
Also get them to install a block heater.

My L3200 sits in a 20' Sea Container I purchased for about $2000 delivered. It's cozy in there and you could insulate it with the Styrofoam insulation for cheap. Had I bought the tall version I would not have to fold my ROPS. It misses clearing by less than half an inch... grrr!
