sub soiler?

I'm going to lay some 1" pvc pipe. I was wondering if a 3 point sub soiler might work. I would like to bury it about 18''. It's pretty good soil, no rocks, mostly sandy loam.
Has anyone had any luck doing it this way?
I didn't want to use the backhoe. Kind of an overkill.

Yes that sort of thing is done all the time, they normally use Poly pipe as you can put a feeder tube attached to it and just run the whole thing in at depth.
Don't try this type with PVC, it will just break the pipe.

Run the subsoiler several times, both forward, and back, before installing pipe, if you encounter a rock or root, it's a heck of a lot easier to dig or cut through it, NOT having the pipe attached!

I laid over 400 feet of pipe last summer with a sub soiler that I welded straps onto a piece of pipe and bolted it to the back of this single shank ripper I had. It worked great. I second the statement of running back and forth several times to break roots or pull up rocks. I had a big root and a chunk of concrete that had to be moved and pulled out.



Here is the finished buried line.



I raked the dirt back over the trench and drove over it a few times. Now you can't even see where it is at. I wish I would have done this sooner. At the end of the growing season, I simply blow out the lines with an air compressor.

Having never done this myself, I wonder if both the size of pipe and depth of bury are a little ambitious for the subsoiler approach.
The videos I have seen, like that posted by skeets (above), look more like 1/2" pipe going no more than a foot deep...

The depth of penetration you can achieve and the diameter of pipe you can lay is determined by the size of the equipment you possess.

olthumpa, I think you're correct!!!!

Like has been said,, run the sub soiler through a couple times to loose it up and when you run through with the pipe it will run in place much easier,, realistically you could use a BX and run 1 or 1 1/2 inch pipe IF you run that same path a couple of times first getting down to the depth you want, when the ground is disturbed the next pull will be easier. If we could do it with a 23 hp cub lawn tractor and 3/4 plastic pipe down 12 inches a 4wd bouta wont have a problem,, And we just ran the same path several times before we pulling in the pipe,,, just my .02 cents

I put 3/4 inch pipe 18 to 24 inches deep with my B7100. If a tractor had down pressure, you could get deeper.

I did ask my wife if she would sit on the 3 point to help the sub soiler dig deeper. I told her to not bounce on it too much and break something.
The Dr. told me i'd be on solid foods next week and my blurred vision would get better. LOL
