For a heads up.....
I just picked up some new turf tires for my b7100. This is my first tractor so I never had to get tractor tires replaced.
Took them down to a kubota dealer to get them switched out and the rears filled with rim guard. I called them before stopping by but I never mentioned needing the tires switched out.... I guess I assumed they change tires being a large dealer that has been around a very long time.... Yeah no, they don't change tires but they do fill them
. Maybe it's a liability thing who knows.... But I found it amazing they don't change tires when even my buddie's small used car garage changes tires...
So I back tracked to a tire place that is in the middle of farm country that I drove right by on my way to the dealer. Good people, been in business for generations and I know they do big tractor tires on the regular. I dropped them off, and he told me it would be Monday afternoon if I was lucky. I was like.... Say what
?? I figured it may take an Hour! I'm thinking to myself.... These are just small tractor tires compared to other out there, what in the world makes this a two day job?? So being the guy I am
.... I asked the owner nicely why it takes so long to change 4 tires over? He said most of the time the rims get rusted and he has to sand them down. Made sense to me
, at least I know he'll do a good job.
To top it off he told me its $40 a tire to dispose of them
. I guess it costs 10 times as much to dispose of than car tires including ATV tires that weigh less than a car tire.... He said it's nuts but that's how it is. He made a good point when he asked me how many farms I've seen with a pile of tractor tires, that's because the big ones cost close to $200 to get rid of! Luckily my father in law has a good place to turn them into a flower planter
