And today this year. All I want is one storm so I can play with the new tractor, then I'll be happy. I'm sure I won't have to wait much longer.

I just added a Piranha Tooth Bar to my tractor. Yahoo! It is one heck of an ice scratching piece of equipment. No falling on my butt walking about the driveway this year. In years past I was out there with a bar, scraper, ice melt and other hand tools of destruction. I should have bought a tractor 25 years ago. There will be no problems selling the cost of the PTB to my wife. She was always right out there working her rear off with me.

Yup, it's nice. But you wouldn't have much of a sugaring season with out the frost snow and cold. Plus that 65° temps tend to kill your sugaring season in a hurry;) i wish we could produce it here. Tired as hell having to import it. Once you figure in shipping on a gallon, your paying around 70$ And thats buying from a cousin

We had a 10 acre sugar works and usually did around 1500 taps in vermont. Had the big wood burning arch. Used to sit in the sugar house doing school work and boiling :D can't afford to live up there any more
So true, 65 does shut a season off in a hurry. But I'm just a hobby sugar-maker, only doing 3-7 gallons from yard trees.

1,500 taps is a big operation. I know several guys at 1,000 - 5,000 taps around here. It takes a lot more to make syrup than people realize, especially at that scale.

Even at just 30 taps, its great fun when it starts, but still gets to be work later in the season.

BUT, there is NOTHING like that sweet maple smell off the pans when you're boiling!!:D

Its like being 5 years old all over again (except now I get to drink beer!!!);)

My grandparents decided to just tap the trees in the front yard one year and boil on there kitchen stove. Neglected to take into account all that steam  there year old wall paper came off in sheets :D

Here in the Pend Oreille drainage of NE Washington the thaw is on. Kind of early. The turkeys are getting color and the tom's are starting to strut their stuff. The water is running and my drive way is almost free of ice, at least the upper layer. The county is putting road restrictions on Monday. Snow is not at normal levels although February can be a pretty good producer.

Yup, down here between Sandpoint and CDA, it's melting off fast. My driveways almost clear, and The lawn is half green. Wasn't expecting to see green for two months still. Only plowed three times, and never even used the snow blower

I had to run into CDA and the dash thermometer said 54. I had to drive with the windows open to cool it off with the winter sun blazing thru the windows. There's no snow left down there.

I'm down from the Kenai in Alaska, so this is incredibly warm. I'm heading south to Santa Monica Kalifornia, for my dad's birthday next week. It's really hot down there! I know I'm going to love the traffic too
