L 245 DT rear axle

when replacing an axle on a Kubota L245DT tractor is there torque specifications that are needed when tightening the axle nut? OR should we not be concerned and just tighten to tight and then back off a turn? help?

Here's the problem, I have a 1978 Kubota L 245DT tractor. Bought in 1979 with 23 hours (900 hrs now). Prior owner laid tractor on side one and slightly bent axle. Have replaced bearings and shims 2 times in last 30 years. This time, however, the axle broke. Found a replacement part and are ready to put back together. Then started wondering about the torque specs on the axle nut.

This is about a 100 acre lot with many tractors and forklifts for parts. THEY HAD MY PART. Kubota wanted almost $600 - - bought for $175.

The specs from my L235/L275 manual calls for 145-181.1 ft-lbs. I would think yours would be similar

Hi North Idaho Wolfman...saw the message above and grinned.....had to post this project I'm currently working on.

So......do ya think I could just weld this up after I get it taken apart?

Got the cracks welded up.....waiting on the gasket and axle seal to get here to put it back together.

Looks like you only welded the top half, I would have recommended running a continuous bead all around, because you have now stressed the bottom half with the lack of heat and the top pulling, you could very well have made the crack travel to the other half.

But that's just surmising as you're there and you can see better in person than a picture can show.
