Power drops off under full load

Hi wondered if anyone could please help me with this problem before I have to take it to a garage.

Kubota B1400DT grey import from Japan. 800 hours. New oil filter, new air filter , new fuel filter. Before winter I had a leaking seal on the PTO, local garage fixed that , when I tried it when I got it back the PTO didn't work at all. Garage came out and found a connection pin inside the transmission had snapped off. Tractor worked fine. Did some ploughing and rotavating and then stored it outside but under cover for the winter. Just tried to use it today. It starts fine, idles fine , revs fine. As soon as you either take it for a spin or try and get it to do any hard work the revs die off and it trys to stall unless you drop the clutch and take off the load. Stalls even quicker going up hill ???

Looking at this forums excellent resources I think you would know my tractor as a Model Kubota B6200,Series B Series,Engine power 15.0 hp,PTO power 12.0 hp. It' a grey import.

Sounds like a fuel problem. Change the filter again and check that you have free flow fuel to the pump, after that check that the mechanical pump is working. My guess is you have a plugged line from the tank or the mech pump is not functioning.

If it was kept outside under cover then maybe a rodent got into the air intake. If you haven't already go have a look, sometimes they will get in there and hide food and sometimes lots of food.

Sounds like a fuel problem. Change the filter again and check that you have free flow fuel to the pump, after that check that the mechanical pump is working. My guess is you have a plugged line from the tank or the mech pump is not functioning.

Sorry to sound stupid but how do I check that I have free flow to the pump, and that the mechanical pump is working ? Disconnect the fuel line and see if fuel is pumping out ?

Disconnect the fuel line after the filter just before it enters the mechanical pump. Fuel should flow freely. Then disconnect after the mechanical pump and crank the engine. Fuel should pump out with some force.
The air cleaner suggestion is a good one too but I would think that it would start to choke at high idle with no load. The fact that yours starts to behave poorly when put under load makes me think you have a fuel starvation problem.

Hi, Fixed it !!!!!!!

I drained the tank of diesel and emptied the fuel filter. Put new diesel in. Works a treat now. Thanks to the two of you for your help.

I think the 2 weeks we had here in France over the winter of down to minus 15 celsius could have knackered the diesel. Will never leave the tractor outside again.

Glad you fixed it, I did not realize it was that cold that the fuel maybe gelled.
