Grills were invented so men could cook outdoors and MAYBE have an adult beverage (or 2).:D

Labor Day weekend means cookouts here!

Roasting a split turkey on the grill today. Split it with my reciprocating saw and (new) demolition blade.

DO NOT EVER use a Stihl 046 Magnum chainsaw for this...........even if you have a new chain..............Trust me on this one! The Mrs. is apt to....well, never mind......:(;)

Porterhouse Steaks tomorrow, straight from a farm about 5 miles from my house.

Sweet corn, salt 'taters, summer squash. (Corn and squash from local guys, 'taters from the store)

Maybe a spare rib!

You hear the Dinner Bell!?!?

What's cookin'??

I won't be grilling out on Labor day, we're heading to Panama city beach for the week, where I know I'll be feasting on some fresh grilled shrimp, Grouper, and Mahi-mahi. I'm sure I will consume a few pounds of crab legs and a couple dozen broiled oysters while I'm down there :D

This is an old thread, but figured it needs to be revived:

Sweet corn - farm a mile up the road.
Spinach salad - same farm mile away.
Porterhouse steaks - raised 5 miles away
BBQ Shrimp - well, the shrimp came from a LONG distance! Just like alligators, snow repels shrimp, too!:D

Have you ever tried maple syrup with the recipe??? I usually substitute molasses, or halve the molasses with maple syrup :D

Got a recipe for sweet and sour meat loaf. Bout the only meat loaf we like. Ran out of molasses so I substituted maple syrup in the sweet and sour sauce. Man, that came out good. :D

Sweet and sour meatloaf
Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Mix in bowl and set to the side

1lb ground chuck
1 chopped onion
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 egg beaten
2 to 3 slices of bread

Sweet and sour sauce.

Mix in pan on stove
5 Tbsp brown sugar
2 Tbsp corn starch
2 Tbsp molasses (can substitute maple syrup)
1 cup water
5 Tbsp vinegar (cider vinegar gives it a little more tang)
2 tsp soy sauce
3 Tbsp ketchup
1 tsp salt

Heat sauce over stove till it thickens stirring often. Small whisk works great.

Mix 2/3 cup sauce with meat mixture. Then place in loaf pan.

Bake for 30 minutes. Then carefully drain off grease.
Pour rest of sauce onto meat mixture and bake another 30 minutes.

Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes

The sweet and sour sauce recipe is good over chicken, rice and steamed veggies as well ;)
