ZD28 electrical problems

I went to start my mower the other day and when I turned the key nothing happened. No fuel pump, no lights, no starter. I thought maybe it was my key switch cause it was so full of dirt. I replaced it and still have same problem. I have also replaced the controller and the regulator, checked all fuses and safety switches and still cannot find the problem. I would be thankful for any help.

got to be a bad ground....safety switch or something.......
pull you volt/ohm meter out and start checking...........
everything and anything, start with battery.....and move through the machine, something will pop up........

I didn't read anything about testing the #1 component that could be the real issue, the battery.
Pull the battery take it to a auto parts store and have it tested, could be a bad battery or bad cell!

Battery is fine and I have gone thru all the wiring and find nothing broken or disconnected. I am pulling my hair out. I can jump it at the starter and it will run.

Do you have power going into the switch?

I had a ZD-18. I had problems very similar. The only difference is that if I turned the switch enough times it would finally fire. I think the 28 is much the same. I checked everything. I even took the starter to a shop and had it bench tested. Everything checked out fine. I saw a cheap starter on the internet and decided to buy it. Never had another problem. One of these days, I plan to do an autopsy on the old starter.

Yes the switch has power. I have tested the starter and it is fine.

The starter isn't likely your problem, however, I told several mechanics that mine was fine before I finally changed it. I wish you lived closer so we could swap just to see what happened.

I found the problem. In the wiring harness that crosses under the radiator there is a red wire inside the loom that is spliced together with 3 other red wires and it was so badly corroded that when touched it fell loose. Once I repaired that all was fine.
