@#$%&! Why do people do this to a Hydraulic Screen!

I can't believe it! I pulled the hydraulic screen in the transmission and found that some @#$%& idiot had punched holes in the filter element! I can't believe it did it by its self, as all the holes are the same size and same shape (rectangle) troughout the whole filter! I just acquired the tractor, and I wonder how long the chips and crud have been going through the backhoe and everything else. Good Grief!

Back into the slow burn mode.........

Freakin' maroons! I guess they figured that if more oil can get through, the machine will work better! If it makes you feel any better, my old Ford backhoe doesn't have any type of hydraulic filter...anywhere! And it still runs, although after almost 50 years it is pretty much on its' last leg.

You would think that after putting forth the effort to find the filter, and the to pull it they would have tried rinsing it instead of the old standby- "Lets poke some holes with a phillips screwdriver for more flow."


Some people should not be allowed anywhere near any kind of tool or equipment.

The P.O. did some stupid stuff on my tractor but I hope they didn't pull a dumb stunt like that. On second thought, I don't think they were smart enough to find the filter.

It was getting slow the last time I used it so I had made plans to clean the filter before putting my new exhaust on. I hope my filter is not damaged.

The worst case of this I ever saw was about 15 years ago. I witnessed a man take the entire hyd filter out of a brand new tractor and throw it away then put the cover back on without one. He said that hyd filters were a waste of time and would just leave you stranded in the field when they stopped up. How smart was that?

My previous owner went one step further. He ripped the screen off completely and put it back in.

But not to fear metal chips rubbing on O-Ring seals in your valve improve lubrication and have no wearing effect on rubber what so ever!

Has any one noticed when changing a hydraulic filter in the back end of a tractor that the old filter you take out is a much higher quality than a newer Kubota filter? I have a early B series and I found that a new filter I purchased from a Kubota dealer was of very low quality and even had 3mm holes along the welded seam!! I returned it to the dealer for an exchange. I know this is a filter which you can just clean rather than replace but I think my tractor had an original one still in it so I thought it was time for a change.

What color was the filter? White filters are made in mexico and the blue locking ones are made in japan. If you compair the two there is a big difference. The Japan made filter feels like it's twice as heavy as the Mexican made one. My local dealer only carries mexican filters. I checked at the dealer that I am using now and they only carry Japan made filters. This dealer is about 30 miles from me but I can call them and they mail them to me from Kubota. It may pay you to find a dealer that has the japan filters.
