Ok Everyone, I've spent the last week tearing up the internet looking to find out which brand of paint to go with to repaint my tractor. The Kubota colors are fairly tough to find anywhere outside of the dealership. I'm not paying $90 a gallon. Period. I've looked all over this site trying to find some info on it, but can't seem to find a thread devoted to it. So I started one.

Has anyone out there found the perfect match for Kubota colors without spending a fortune on it? If so, what line of paint is it? Is it a premixed paint or did you have it mixed at the counter? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. If you have the the formulas from the can, you would be my hero. Thanks all.

P.S.: So far I've found that Valspar, Majic, and Rustoleum all makes T&I paints. Unfortunately no local stores in my area carry any of these lines.

How do you wish to paint it, with rattle cans or with a spray set up?

Paint is like anything else; you really do get what you pay for. . . . $90 a gallon for a good catalyzed single stage urethane is a bargain, by the time you buy the reducer and catalyst you're probably closer to $150 a gallon if not more. And another $90 or so for a gallon of good primer. But those single stage catalyzed urethanes are easy to apply and tough as nails.

You can probably save a few buck over the Kubota brand paint by having your local Body Shop supplier mix up a batch of Kubota Orange/Gray for you. Pretty sure it will still be a catalyzed urethane (enamel) though. Much more durable than anything you can buy in a rattle can. Just make sure you use a good mask, that crap is not friendly to living organisms . .

Edited to add: MOST any Body Shop Paint supplier can mix up a quart for you . . they should have the paint codes for Kubota, if not find one who can do a computer optical scan match of a the existing paint on the tractor . . I believe ALL PPG Paint dealers have this capability . .

I bought some rattle cans for touch up from the dealer when the tractor was about a year old to fix a bad scratch, and I will never use that again. Everywhere I sprayed it, the paint is extremely faded and looks like graffiti. I'm looking to brush on an oil based enamel. I've used these quite often and they hold up well. Most of this work will be done on the Woods loader. They obviously do not use the same paint at the Woods factory that Kubota does. It has faded much quicker than the rest of the tractor. There is one PPG paint dealer in the area. I didn't think about them. I'll check them out, thanks!

Not to muddy the discussion but...

The Kubota paint is excellent paint but, the rattle can delivery option is not so bueno. I re-painted my hood and got TONS of orange peel from the spray pattern. I needed a good paint and minimal fuss so it worked for me for the hood and roof. I also bought a quart for the bucket (after the big landscape project it won't have much paint left).

Somebody on another site mentioned that the Duplicolor Chevy Orange engine paint was pretty dadgum close to Kubota. But I cannot remember whether that was Kubota Orange (early color) or Kubota II (the newer red-orange). Not sure if Duplicolor is available in gallons.

I agree with WIJG, going to a paint store for a high quality matched paint that will wear long and hard is well work the extra bucks. You worked hard to get that machine "resurrected" and want to get the best and most protective finish on it you can. Ten years from now, the extra $100 or so won't matter much. Its money into the value of the vehicle and you'll get that money back every time you look at it.

Have you used this paint on a tractor? I've used their Camo paint and it's great . It took way longer than expected to dry, but that was probably my fault.
