Hard choice

Hello all,

I've been shopping for a tractor within my price range ($2000). Homesteading; needing to get back in the woods to haul out firewood. I want to plow a few acres which is now in wild grass (lots of quack). I need to push back the wilderness with some heavy duty mowing. I have the opportunity to buy a Kubota B6000 4wd in good condition for $2000. I also have on the stringer a Ford 8N in really nice shape, well maintained and good rubber, etc. for $1500. Some say, "go with the N8 cause parts are easy to find and it is easy to maintain and fix. Also, more HP.

Others say, "go with the Kubota cause 4wd is awesome. Which way would ya'all go?

Welcome to the forum. I myself would buy the 4wd. I use mine all winter moving snow. Very sure footed on the hills also.

I had the 53 jubilee, much like the 8n, but a little better..........did A LOT of stuff with it, lots of pulling and what not.....

the 20+ HP on the N sounds good......and with those big tires, lots of torque,

3 point is limited, I think approx 600#, will suck the gas good, parts are easy to find, but not cheap, and very easy to trouble shoot, I was a member of the Ford N board for many years, greeeeat folks there.....

however, the 13 hp diesel is gonna work like a champ, and the 4wd is gonna be awesome.

Now you have not mentioned hours on the machine. the N you will never know, and if it is a mid 50-51-52 it might have a proofmeter, but I am gonna bet against it....

how many hours on the B6000?

Now something that you might not know......the B6000 has an ass backwards PTO.......

now ifn you were to get the run of the mill brush hog(CW)......houston we have a problem.............

so do your homework, find out everything you can about each and report back.

Yes Implements for a B6000 are a PITA to find and costly, as it has a reverse PTO of most all the other tractors out there.
A B6000 is a good tractor, but it's a Grey/Gray market Kubota, witch makes it a tough tractor to get parts a service for, Kubota dealers will not sell you parts, but there is plenty of online places to get parts.

I'd rather have a small 4wd Bota than a 8N.

I would agree with you ...right up till you said ......CCW PTO....

but them thar 8's are damn fine tractors........

like to think of the 750000 that were built , I bet 30% or more are still moving ......

not sure, but I aint never seen a 65 year old Kubota!

Check the gear ratios of the 8N. My neighbor bought one, and its low gear was like my Kubota's 5th! Sometimes, you want to go slow. Other than that, my vote would be for the 8N. Lots of parts out there, and easy to troubleshoot/repair.

well i do believe the reason you have not seen a 65 year old kubota is because kubota itself is not that old.... but i was in the same boat when i pulled the trigger on my old orange girl. was looking at a B6200hsd but didnt get it do to 4ft being the recommended size for nearly all the implements, same as my wheelhorse. so i passed on it and kept looking (my limit on $$ sucked when seeing all you get for just a little bit more) anyway finally seen a add with no picture and little info just kubota L-210 w/5ft blade $2000. called the guy up arranged to look at it. got there to look at it annnnddd......... she was darn near sold before she even started.

oh and hokie my kubota is 42 years young!!!!

she is cute as a button!! Great deal on the tractor too!
