I just changed mine yesterday. I used 80-90 gear oil. Seems like a better solution to me, but I'm used to old iron.

Yeah, seems like the way to go for me also, I am definitely "Old School" . . . . Probably won't get to it till tomorrow or Wednesday . . so plenty of time for others to weigh in . . Old Iron . . like the way you think 08quadram . . ;)

Here's the deal from what I have learned with servicing Kubotas for quite a few years in VT, CT and NH. The 80w-90 will work to slow a leaky front axle and will safely lubricate your axle in most conditions. The UDT/SUDT/SUDT2 is more likely to weep by worn seals.

HOWEVER, if you live somewhere cold, you need to read this!
I have found that water (condensation) MIXES with UDT and forms a slushy mix, but it will NOT separate into oil and water as easily. UDT seems to emulsify and mix.

Gear oil will SEPARATE.....you will have WATER (ICE) in your lower hub/pivot assemblies. I have personally seen the ice freeze and pop the lower caps off an L48 tractor. I have also seen ice completely disable a machine. Once your front axle freezes, you need to wait for a warm day till you can move it again....no way a torch will heat it up.

SO......moral of the story.....both will work, but I would strongly suggest UDT/SUDT if you don't have a bad leak, to prevent future issues.

I use the UDT. My B only takes 4 gallons in the trans/hydro.....so might as well use the rest of the pail in the front axle.
Plus cold days outnumber warm ones up here, so works for me.

I've had trans/hyd fluid in mine for years with no issues. No more than it gets changed price is hardly a issue if you break the cost down over the life of the fluid.

Thanks a lot Fellas . . I did the Hydraulic filters and fluid change today, the engine oil and filter yesterday, I will do the front axle service tomorrow using Super UDT 2.

Thanks again. I love my L3800.
