Mid-PTO Installation

Hi all.

I am heading out across country (almost) to pick up my L2195A, front mount blower in a week. Last weekend I picked up my mid-PTO that I ordered from my stealership. This weekend I plan to install it so I am ready to go on the blower front as soon as I get back. The tractor is a 2013 L3940 that I bought used a month ago.

Any tips/hints/suggestions? I haven't even opened the box to see if there are instructions or how good they are. I think it should be pretty self explanatory, but still. Dealer told me to run the back wheels up on blocks to minimize oil loss. I plan to do that, as I plan to replace the fluid this summer (i.e. not right now).

I am an mech. engineer and I do as much of my own vehicle maintenance as I can. I'm plenty mechanically inclined. Working on the Kub should be better than working on any modern car.

One thing I've noticed, too. I recently (last weekend) got the manual for my tractor. In everything PTO related, they show a lever. I have a yellow twist-knob. I know when I twist it, it lights up on the dash as the PTO being on. I can't say I've gotten off to look at the PTO itself, but I'm confident is is actually on. Anyway, I have seen ZERO reference to the knob instead of the lever. Is it an add-on of some sort? Electronic clutch or something?

Anybody lift an L3940 with an auto lift? Would be nice, but I doubt there are many good lifting points. Just a side question. =)

Thanks,
Andy

I do believe around these parts that you Sir will be the first to install an after market mid pto...

It is the kubota pto. And.....huh. I opened the box and got out the directions. The worst part seems to be the linkage for the engage/disengage. Hoping for 2-3 hours install time. We'll see.

Yes, you have a yellow knob on the right of the seat to turn the PTO on. Once you get the mid-pto installed you should have lever to pull up & down by your left leg. Also when you engauge the Mid-Pto your rear PTO will come on also at the same time.

So for rear pto turn yellow knob - for mid-pto you will have both.

Too bad they don't design in a method of separating the two pto's. Not crazy running my backhoe pump when I am running the front blower. Might have to make up a weight box or change the pump bracket so I can pull it off of the rear pto.

Those pumps are designed to run 100x longer than you will ever run it. Personally, I'd be taking the BH right off during the winter to keep it out of the snow, but maybe that's just me.

You need to get a newer manual as I have photo's of it in the L3540 that I have.
Just go to the Kubota site.

If you do not want take your BH off just take the PTO shaft off!!

As always with those who venture into new territory, we need lots and lots of pics of the install as it progresses :D

It helps to have a shop hand with a camera for this purpose. Don't disappoint us ;)

Be sure to make a new post for the install as well.....Posts like that is what adds tremendous value to forums.

I posted one on the 'what did you do with your kubota' thread. When i was using it, it was dark, so no pics of that. Worked great though. Way faster than my plow.
