We are just north of the dividing line and supposed to get some ice.
We had rain most of the day yesterday and thunderstorms overnight. Supposed to hit mid-80s today. Then rain Saturday and Sunday with some severe storms possible Sunday.

What is interesting to me is how scattered the storms have been. We got soaked yesterday 50 miles to the SW, they got nothing and under a red flag warning for burning.

We have a burn ban until may 15. It's drying up really fast here. They do it every spring to reduce forest fires.

I wish it would dry up here. I have projects I need to do and the ground to still too soft for the tractor. Foot of snow this weekend and then more rain ain't gonna help it. I'm anxious to get to some landscaping work!

We’re on the warm side of the system. Supposed to be almost 70 degrees here.
Down here on the lower end of the country, the Bradford pears:mad: have bloomed and almost leafed out, the forsythia, red buds and cherry trees are in full bloom. It's really pretty. The Bermuda grass is starting to green up, so it's time to get the mower ready.

About the same where I'm at in VA. My grass is still trying to come back from dormancy but another 2 weeks or so I'll be looking to mow I'm sure.

Getting a 10"+ dump here in SE MB last night and today.
We really need the moisture, but I didn't really need the aggravation of removing the loader and hooking up that blower unit and subframe.
So today I'll crawl around under the 'bota in the shelter while this storm tapers off and get the snowblower going again. It's been like since January since it's been needed, as the snowfall has been pretty easy to scrape away with the loader bucket since like new year.
But we do have to get the vehicles in and out now. And this is the largest dump we've entertained all winter.
So nice to have that blower! Not so nice putting it on and taking it off, though.
Tractor's out in the hooper... coffees & brekky & doggy walk, first...

Would it be consolation if I said the picture looks like a Norman Rockwell?

Wow - - my neighbor is still drawing maple sap from our trees. 🍁

Been spotty. Some of the taps at our place are running, and others seem to be done for the season. Soft (Red) maples will be flowering in short order. Budded pretty good now.

I let my 5 Manitoba maple tap buckets hang through the snowstorm. Dump the snow out tomorrow, and the week forecast looks good for flow. Had a couple of productive days so far, anyway. Fresh box elder syrup on the morning yogurt is the best!

Just found out it has upgraded to a winter storm warning. Its now a foot.

Damn it.

I may not have a choice but to plow it. If I have to, I'll just use the bucket and keep it off the round a 2-3 inches.

Needless to say, I am not happy.

That's great! Box elder still makes Maple Syrup!

Some (not many) folks here call Box elder "ash-leaved maple" . Part of the Maple family - - Acer negundo.

We've got some Norway maples on our place. Common street tree.

First year tapping, young farmer was confused by them.

Looked like maples but had bark of an ash tree??!?!?!

Told his father he wished I were home, because I'd know what they were. I have an education as a Forester.

He's tapped them since...... 🍁

Oh geez - - they've since reduced our forecast temperature to 60 degrees or so.

Sounds like that front will be somewhere along NYS Route 20. North is cold and south is warmer. Steep temperature changes north and south of it.....

I'm more frustrated than I did tons of raking up stones and they will plow the roads and sand and I'll have to do it all over again.

I tried tapping a big walnut tree in the backyard and it took about 20 gallons of sap to make a cup of syrup. Was good but not worth the boiling time.

Mid May in 2009 IIRC, I was 3 hours North of Winnipeg, got 6in of snow dump on us. Just my luck coming from South Texas.

They say Walnut Syrup is really good, but others say it's an "acquired" taste.

I've heard it can be a challenge to make, as it can burn easily.

Heard the same with Birch syrup.

I think both are short on sugar content, so it takes a lot of sap to make a little bit of syrup.

"Manitoba Maples" around our yard and 5 spigots with pails from ebay. Have been making some for nearly 10 years now.
