Main bearing case bolt dilemma:
I cannot get myself to pay $65 for a bolt
Then, I still need 2 connecting rods and 2 pistons for this engine
$800 just for 2 connecting rods and 2 pistons new
My narrative: why not just buy 2 whole engines for the same cost?
But I am scared that now I will turn into that guy with tons of parts all over their yard
Or, am I making the smart decision and saving money?
Please critique my dilemma
There is tractor parts all over the yard, and now I want to grab 2 more tractors and have more parts laying around?
Maybe that is the proper rythym - fix one engine at a time by buying entire tractors instead of paying retail for new parts
Summary: I did rebuild the engine with the hole in it with many parts of the engine that now I need to build
Meaning I saved tons of money so far in not buying 2 connecting rods for the engine that is complete
But now that engine need 2 connecting rods, 2 or 3 pistons
That alone minimum is $1000
This is why I keep going back to deciding to get whole tractors instead of new parts
@L35
Right? Having junk laying around is better than paying $1000 for a few pieces of steel
And
With getting 2 L305 tractors, I would have tons of all the bolts, extra gears, crankshafts etc
And I would have 2 d1301 engine blocks that that I can maybe turn into one working engine
Found bolt on Coleman for $15, ordered it since
it would move engine build all the way forward most of engine on tractor, everything but head and oil pan, then
at that point, I can go get another engine or two and pull pistons out of those and put them into the current build
@Vlach7
yes I am considering that, it could be true, that if I get 2 more d1301 engines that I might be able to
finish building current engine and MAYBE be able to put together another good d1301 engine
total I would have 3 running tractors, and I would sell one and would we can experiment with what the market is willing to pay
ok yes I am decided now: save up for more d1301 engines and go get them
only use part suppliers for small purchases
get more tractors and maybe build one to sell
ok plan for this week: put wheels on running tractor, test run make sure she don’t leak, then put loader on tractor and make progress on the hydraulic lines
and if the bolt show up, I can also reassemble the other engine all the way to piston installation
regardless, schedule should be full and I should not have to order anything, or wonder what to do
before running tractor on wheels, make sure fluids are in the axles and the transmission
found genuine used Kubota connecting rods for less than $100
these connecting rods are in tons of other Kubota engine so they are interchangeable
solved: don’t need to get more tractors
I also found Taiwanese pistons for $50, tons of people buy them, they seem well made
more and more I am finding these parts cheaper and cheaper, I found 4 sets of rings for $100, new open box
