My neighbor ran his zd21 out of diesel. We were getting no fuel to the injectors. The last place we had fuel was coming from the tank. Bought new fuel filters no joy I let him have a known working fuel pump off my parts mower but it still isn’t starting. I’m at a loss.

YOU must open the valve at the injector pump - typically a bleed screw, open it, no need to remove it.

OPEN the throttle to the wide open position - and crank, stop for a bit ( 60 seconds) and crank again.

When fuel comes out WITHOUT bubbles - shut bleed screw and it should fire up.

Are there 2 filters or just one? Is there a lift pump? IF so - is that pump "ticking?"

The lift pump is ticking but no fuel is coming out of it. I didn’t put the fuel filter on so I’m wondering if it’s on backwards. I showed in the middle of the scene so that’s the only thing I can think of that could be wrong

here's the 'plumbing.. I'd disconnect the hose at the Inj pump (close to 'fig no 202'. Put a can unde rthe hose and then turn the key on. Lift pump(#150) should tick and fuel pulse out of the open hose. If not, work towards the tank. if you remove the upper filter and fuel comes out, then THAT fitler was plugged...The lower one might be or 'junk' in the tank..... it's really a 'process of elimination'

Go through the system and find where your getting fuel, could be when he ran it out he suck junk into the fuel lines and plugged them up.
