zd21 mower deck gearbox

HI GUYS, NEW TO THE SITE AND AM HAVING SOME PROBLEMS REBUILDING THE MOWER DECK GEARBOX ON MY ZD21. a new box is about 1,250.00 and I opted for the parts and seals etc for 550.00. I am having problems getting the primary shaft bearings to sit down so I can put thr snap rings on. I can get one side dut not the other. I need another 1/2" or so to get the other side done. My bearings all match and there are no burrs or ridges on the shaft or housing. Any help or information would be appreciated. I can hear my grass growing !!!!
