My Z723 dies when the control levers are moved in. The parking brake is released but the motor immediately dies when I pull either lever in. I assume there is a safety switch that recognizes when the parking brake is set. Can anone tell me where the switch is located so I can replace it?

I don't know your exact mower, however, general control logic requires some one to be sitting in the seat which activates the seat switch, if the levers are moved or the pto is activated and no seat switch input the engine will stall, so possibly a seat switch problem or controller problem. Do you have a wiring diagram from a service manual?

Yeah, I'm in same spot as 100. Don't know your machine, but certainly sounds like a safety switch issue.
100 is a pretty sharp cookie. He's generally spot on....

Good luck!

I am reasonably sure it is not the seat switch. The mower will start no problem. It dies when I move the control levers in while I am sitting on the mower. I have no wiring diagram. I know the mower is also equipped with a safey switch that will kill the engine if the levers are moved in while the parking brake is engaged. I am simply asking where this switch is located to I can inspect it and possible replace it.

Like the others, I don't know your machine, but often you can start machines without being in the seat, but they shutdown when something like a PTO is engaged and you're not in the seat. If the seat switch goes bad then it would give the same symptoms you're describing. Could be either I guess but I'm not familiar with have a safety switch on the parking brake, other than it being required to start a machine. Before replacing anything get a multimeter and test the switch(es).

The parking brake switch on mine only kills the PTO if it is on. It does not kill the engine. My seat switch is disconnected.

Because of the hydros...there is a kill switch that will turn off the engine if the levers are moved in with the parking brake engaged. it is not a seat switch issue.

make sure the park brake lever is all the way up. Some of them kinda stick about 1/4 the way down and will trick the mower into thinking that the brake is still on. Just pull it up with your foot after releasing it and see if that does the trick. If it does, adjust the linkages. If not, likely a relay under the seat; there are a couple under the panel that goes under the seat, behind your legs, and if one dies, it'll affect your OPC system.

Don't know why I missed writing in the park brake, I wrote another reply a couple of days ago with it in!
