XG850 Starter replacement

curious., here in Canada base price is $20K, so US$ maybe $15K ? Tossing $1,000 US$ into a 15k has to HURT unless it was say 20 years old.....well used...

The problem I have is really on Kubota. The kit I just purchased with the solenoid/relay and the replacement wire's no way should cost that much. The solenoid is the most expensive in the kit and there is not way it should be more than $100. Even OEM. I'm pretty disappointed in Kubota. Wish I knew the warranty ran out in 2023. This sidekick is a POS. The worst Kubota product I've seen yet.

As it should be since it's typical mo. Kit fits 10 models. If you had access to Kubota's warehouse I wager the same relay can be found in dozens boxes with various cables and bareing different part #s. A less technical example more folks might identify with is paint. Kubota's colors really show with their paint (pun intended) The difference in price with 90% of mfgrs who release color code is staggering. A Kubota owner's blood must be a special shade of orange to believe their paint is worth 3x others because it has secret sauce in it.

After looking at the kit on Messick's site I'm certain I can buy everything needed at the local auto parts store for less than $100. As you said about most expensive part in kit is relay and I recently replaced one on a Ford E350 Powerstroke for $38. If a relay has the ump to crank that beast I'm pretty sure it's up to this task. This thread is old but if the member who said they have 3 of these machines should start now to get help figuring out what to buy if they can't figure it out for themselves when one fails.

Late to the forum but looks like a 31200-mjp-g51 starter has the same dimensions and same tooth count.
Fits a 2016-2020 Honda crf1000 African twin
Can find them under $200.

I am a relatively new owner of a 2021 XG850 with 160 hours and the ubiquitous starter failure. I am in Canada and when I talk to both the dealer and Kubota Canada, they say the PSB with that number does not exist. Any chance you could provide me a copy of the PSB and I could work it backwards from there?

PSB-2020-034-E-R1 issued on March 16, 2020
It replaces the starter solenoid relay and positive battery cables.
It is a Fix when Failure only, and is good for 5 years from the date of purchase.

They are confidential and proprietary information for the dealer. Handing copies out could result in the loss of a job for the person who released it, or the dealer could be canceled by Kubota.
The PSB was only for the USA.
Have your dealer search for "RTV-XG850 starter solenoid (relay) failure"

The Kubota Canada rep I spoke with said there were no PSBs to that specific VIN. When I look, I believe it already has the new solenoid. I have installed the updated starter and I am quite sure it cranks faster. I am not sure what the real issue is with the solenoid (relay) but the failed magnets in the starter seems to be common either pre or post VIN break for the relay issue. Kubota Canada says US and Canadian models are different, yet this unit has a large "Made in USA" label on it.
When on doubt, add $$ I guess.
