Seems like high range, high gear, with the air brakes on would have taken care of the run away motor instead of letting it blow

Pinching off the airflow would do it, too. On the video, though, it was pretty clear that the cops would not let him approach the truck...

Seal/bearing goes bad, somewhere between oil and air intake, like turbo or injector. Oil starts getting into intake, speed goes up. eventually gets to runaway speed, as motor consumes own oil supply, seizes engine from oil starvation...

Daren,

Your point is awesome. Posting that on the thread might help other truckers deal with the same issue. At least its a "try." That is what pilots do. We learn from others mistakes and when something goes goofy, we try an alternative solution. 90% of the time, it helps.

Orange drivers, your parking brake is super cheesy but, that might solve the same issue.

Parking brake may be cheesy, but 90% of the newer tractors get sold with a fel. Bury the loader in high range with a hydrostatic and push the go pedal to the floor. Geared tractor, high gear with fel buried and foot standing on the brake and anything else to try stall it out

Put it in 4wd before you bury the bucket and start spinning the wheels.

Guy had one run away in the caterpillar shop, put a servic manual over air intake. Took a bit to shut down.

Another guy had one go off like that, stuffed his parka in air intake.seal in turbo failed.

Scary, run away engine- thats what you do, run away!!! Run away!!
