I'm a bit confused with what the manual says. It says I have a 5A fuse for the work light circuit and it says that the max is 35w.

Shouldn't 5A 12V give me 60W? Unless my math is wrong here?

35W seems unreasonably low. On my BX, I believe the work ligbt circuit was 20A.

Another question: I'd like to get the work light circuit to power on only when the headlights are turned on. So I'm thinking about putting a relay in there but I'm not sure how to trigger it. I was thinking about putting the relay coil pins inline on one of the rear light but that wonct work since resistance will become too gigh. Any advice?

I'd have to see the 'manual', but I'll 'assume' the WORKLIGHT is rated for 35Watts, the 'feed' circuit is good for 60 Watts( 12 x 5).

you put the relay coil in PARALLEL with a light that comes on ,NOT in series.

Ah yes, in parallel in works. Thanks.

As for the fuse, it's not the worklight itself that is 35w, it's really the fuse box that says that. Could this be a typo in the manual (and on the label of the fuse box)? I tested the circuit and it really is 12v and not 6v (6v would make sense for 35w)

Ok.. one possible reason.... Wiring is only rated for 3 amps (would need to know the wire size). Now the fuses are 'ATC' style, common vaues are 3A,5A,10A. If you used a 3A fuse, the inruch current will blow the fuse. A 4 Amp fuse would be nice ,but may not be available, so they put in a 5A fuse.
These days most guys wire in LEDs, which generally give you more Lumens per Watt compared to incandescent lights.
that's my idea .....
OK, so I look for ATC fuses and Wiki says you CAN get 4AMP fuses ! I've neve rseen one, have 100s pulled from scrap cars..5,10,15,20,25,30s...... not one 4 amp fuse......
so... next idea.... there's 2 , 5 a fuses....cheaper, easier to buy a million 5A than 1/2 and 1/2. Also idiot proof on the assembly line, same fuse goes in 2 places....

Positive trigger source would be wired to headlights
Pin 30 is powered by your work light circuit
Device is your added work lights
Relay wiring.jpg

I prefer to add my own electrical system - more expensive but more versitile

its 5amps, that's why I ran a new feed to my project box. Triggered it by aux circuit. I guess you could trigger yours simply by tapping the headlight plug for the relay.

So thw work lights I have are those from ropslights.com. I initially bought them for my BX. They are 4560 lumens each (and I have 2). So it might nit be safe to put on the 5a circuit I guess. I don't have the power rating for those lights.

I'm thinking I should just run a wire to the battery directly (with a fuse) or just use the 12v outlet circuit since I don't plan on using it.

This is what I ended up doing skeets. So I can't use my 12v outlet any more but that's ok. I didn't cut any wires, so if I wanna sell the tractor, I can just reconnect everything back like before.
