I keep everything under roof not because of temperature but to preserve the paint, seals, prevent rust, and perhaps a hundred other reasons. Now if you won't be getting to the tractor for long periods of time take the battery home and keep it charged. If you visit regularly, use a solar battery charger. If you need to start in extremely low temperatures, get a small generator and run it for about an hour to charge the battery, operate a block heater and have plenty of power for the glow plugs.

I would use the battery charger recommended. I'm not sure what you call very cold. But, it gets to the negative temps here. I don't do anything for mine, but mine is covered in the shed. Obviously, you need to make sure your antifreeze is up to the task, so it would be worth a flush if you haven't done that or it's in an unknown state.

What is your definition of VERY COLD. It could be Tee Shirt and Short temperature for many on here.
