Have seen a lot of posts here and other places about the fried ECU issue. Apparently if your tractor is older that 8yrs you are out of luck and the fix is about $3000, with a possible month wait for parts. My L3901 is 10 this year so Im concerned I will have this issue with no recourse, and no way to prevent it. Not being able to prevent it is what is really bothering me. My battery could get a dead cell and it kills a $3k ECU.
So far it seems as if nobody has figured out how to fix them themselves, though I did find a company ( and have seen it here ) that claims to fix them, but their Terms and Conditions are bizarre. Basically if it isnt fixed, too bad. they break it worse, too bad. They decide to keep it, too bad. The address was some kind of massage parlor.
I did find a video on youtube where a guy repaired a different brand tractor ECU by replacing a blown TVS inside.
What about a surge suppressor on the line going to the fuse box? How many volts does it take to kill the ECU?
Maybe a Seachoice 19931 would work?
