I'm comfortable back dragging the fel in float, but should I be using the rear blade instead? I haven't figured a rear float out yet on a BX. I'm leveling multiple loads of top soil into a front lawn. Which is best?
My choice would be bucket in float back dragging. Bucket flat on ground. Or rear slightly lifted. Rear blade to pull soil off high spots.
Combination of both will get er done.
If you have a lot of dirt to move the back blade will work better, but you can do better finish work with the fel. The fel will give you a lot more control especially with a BX as the 3 point hitch control is pretty rudimentary. If you try the rear blade, sometimes you can do better dragging it backwards.

I have MUCH better success when back-blading either the FEL (float - or sometimes no float -depending) or back blade. The advantage of the blade over the FEL is that you can make gravel-loose dirt GO where you wish with a little bit of angle.
The 1/2" lip on the underside of my PTB makes easy work of gravel, loose dirt etc!
