Hi,

Oil pressure light is on on my l1500dt. My first thought is to replace the oil sending unit.

While I'm there I would like to add on a pressure gauge so that if it's not fixed I'll have some diagnostics.

Was reading this thread:

http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26179

And an adapter is getting added for the oil pressure sending unit. Is this so they can add on a gauge or what? Seems like a good place to add it right?

Also I assume when I go to replace the sending unit oil will pour out so might as well change oil while I'm at it esp since it looks pretty bad to me (never worked on diesel, if my car oil were that black I'd assume it was dead haha!)

Thanks!

Ah there was another link to a different thread on adding the gauge! Reading that thread it didn't seem to think oil would flow out but maybe just obvious and oil was drained before hand. And adding the gauge there is what original poster did so that confirms that question. Thanks!

You shouldn't get more then a spoon full of oil when pulling the oil sending unit. :) Even without draining the oil pan.

Correct, if that much

Ah good to know! Thanks. Also on the topic of fluid levels. When I open what I think is the transmission fluid reservoir. The reservoir between your feet should the level be topped off? I see a metal rod in there. Doesn't seem right. Figured the rod should be covered by fluid. Haven't cracked open the covers under the shifters yet big guessing all those should be covered by tranny fluid as well.

Thanks much!

ah looks like I can probably use universal tractor oil and fill it until it comes out when I remove the fill plug. I'll probably drain transmission fluid, looks like a couple of plugs, clean the strainer, refill.

Will be happy to get all the fluid changed. Need to get this little orange in action, the "grass" ain't waiting on me!

DO NOT fill it to the top!
Fluid will not cover all of the shafts in the transmission.
There is a plug on the side of the transmission behind the clutch about halfway up, that is the max fill plug.
