Hi Guys
My first post ( having read many for the past few years!).
I have an old B7200 HST D and after wrecking a couple of batteries I found, through the forum, that it might be my voltage regulator. The battery was at 13v but when starting and revs were taken to about 1500 the charge at the battery was over 16.5V. I started looking at posts on regulators. I beleive I have an alternator but was looking for a VR behind the dash. It looks like mine is just in front of the fuel tank in the engine compartment. I have had a go at testing it,but not being very competent with a multi meter I thought just replacing it might eliminate this as the potential problem. I have an old style (Lucas?) box with copper wires wound round three stations ) but wondered if I can replace it with a new solid state one like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171944871976
The plug looks like a direct replacement and the extra ring connector just looks like an earth (??).
Question is; Am I opening up a hornets nest of problems or is this just a straight swap?
I live in the middle of nowhere so taking it to the local shop has a starting cost of $150 and I have realised I need to get my hands dirty if I am going to keep my orange tractor purring!
I will send pictures, once I figure out how to do that, but if anyone has some sage words of advice , I would really appreciate it.
I have looked through many posts but don't seem to find the answer yo my particular situation.
Thanks
Siz
