Wheel weight mounting

I’m looking into adding three sets of wheel weights to my MX5100 and M6040 but I would like them to not stick past the outside of the tire.

One way I can think of is to mount one set inside the wheel and the other two on the outside. My concern is each tractor has 4 holes in the rims for weights. Two bolts for the inside set and two for the two outside sets.

Would just two bolts on the outside set be enough?

The weights for the MX are 107lbs each and the M weights are 175lbs each.

Good day.

I have three sets all on the outbound side of the wheel on my MX. I believe they slightly stick out past the tire. I think this (see pic) is what you like to avoid, correct?

I’d recommend before deciding to consider how your wheels are set (turned inside or outside) and then also where is your valve stem and will you have reasonable access to the valve stem to check TP.

I don’t have a solution for you, but my concern would be servicing the valve stem if putting weights on the inside and outside. I also don’t know that it would be a problem either so maybe this is of no help? 🤷‍♂️

Good luck.

Those don’t stick out too far, I would be okay with that. And yes it’s dependent on how the rims are offset.
I believe the ones I’ve seen stick way out was on a M series. I did see a M7060 for sale that had the same tire and wheel as mine that had one set on the inside and two on the outside but I didn’t notice how the bolts were set up. It must have sold now because I can’t find it.

My main concern on the M would be mounting 350lbs of weight from just two carriage bolts. Granted they would be grade 5 or grade 8 bolts.

Oh, I thought I read as wanting some for both…if for your MX, Here is a better picture from the rear…

The proof load rating for 2 x 1 /2" grade 5 bolts is 12 tons. If set at 180 degrees I dont think 350 pounds of weights is a concern

With only 2 bolts holding them on they are going to shift on every turn, stretching and hammering on the bolts.
I wouldn't do it!

Think about that for a second. Two 1/2-13 grade 5 bolts lubed snd tightened to 55 lb-ft are producing somewhere around 16000 to 18000 pounds of clamping force. As long as the weights are in solid contact with the wheel they are going nowhere.

That said I think the idea of moving one of the weights inboard to avoid a 2" protrusion past the sidewall on the tire is overthinking things.

While the math might look good, the real world bump and grind will out do the math, seen it mutiple times in mutiple scenarios.
