Hi, when purchasing a L3800 tractor with attached loader - and having to pay $AU870 for a 500kg counterweight Cat 1 (with the intention to save up for a special slasher), I thought it would be wiser to just buy a modest slasher attached to the unit, so no counterweight will be needed. My query is, will a 250kg or 350kg slasher make up for the needed 500kg counterweight??
Sorry about my pidgin English.

You'll be close on weight, but a slasher is pretty bulky to use as a weight for loader work.

Make your own counter weight or ballast box, lots of good Ideas on here about making your own. ;)

I have used my bush hog (slasher) as a counter weight for using my forks to lift 1100 lbs (499 kg) before, but as the Wolfman stated, it is very bulky.

For loader work, I normally just use my Box Blade for counter weight. If I really need more weight, I just fill up my 26 gallon sprayer that I have permanently attached to the box blade to add another 200 lbs.

And you might think about filling the rear tires as well

My rear tires are filled and while it helps, I have had the rear tires lift off the ground when having a full bucket without any extra weight on back.
