What to use for Heating Engine/ Winter

Wondering what to use to heat engine in winter. Silicone heating pads vs Block Heater, not sure what one will be better.

Where i'm from It's not uncommon to get three weeks of minus thirty in a row.
Block heaters have never let us down.
I'm not even sure if we've even seen silicone pads up here.

In the south a block heater just for really cold spells is all you'll ever need.
You'll probably never need it.

The only thing I have ever used silicone heating pads on, is multiples on large hydraulic tanks in addition to the built in unit.

Engine block heaters are far superior as a stand alone option.
