Hello out there! New here and glad I found this Orange site! I am getting ready to trade in my B7500 for a L3540 HsTC and need some advice on tires. My current orange weighs only 1400# and it has R4's on it. The new one weighs at 4000 and I live in the woods where I do landscaping and such. But the other problem is snow. here in Iowa we get lots of snow. I keep hearing that turfs or HDAP's work well in snow? I could use some advice! Thanks

Turfs and rear chains (two link) work great in snow and extra ballast helps too.
I've got turfs and use them in the woods (before I bought chains) 'cause I bought a used 'Bota.
I wanted R4's but I've heard that they work poorly in mud and need chains in snow.
So, I got what I got and I make them work for me and they do very well.

Hey Kenton,

I have an L3400DT with AG tires that seem to work well in snow and mud. I like not having to put chains on, but then I usually try to do things the easy way. I am not too sure if the AG tires would be very good if you had to spend much time on paved roads, but then out where I'm at, that isn't a problem.

I bought my MX5100 this past winter and we got over 21ft. of snow this year. I have a 2.5 mile driveway up over a mountain to tend to . I got it the day after the 2nd blizzard in less than 2 weeks and unfortunately it came delivered with R-4's. I can tell you that they totally suck big time in the snow. Luckily, the dealer took them back and put on some Ags for me. So I should be good to go next winter.
I can't speak for the turf tires but The R-4s sure do suck in the snow.

Turf tires are for lawn mowers. I would go with the ag tire if it was my choice.
I agree with Bulldog.

I have a L175 with 13.6-16 turf tires on it. While I didn't try to use it in snow; I did move an empty grain cart with it in about two inches of sloppy mud last fall, (everything else was already hooked onto something). The turf tires spin freely in mud, just like a riding lawnmower.

I thought about getting chains for it; but I only have about 3/4" clearance between the tires and the mounting frame for the Woods mower on it. Consequently, I clear snow with my Allis Chalmers WD and a snap coupler blade.
