What is this piece of metal in my hydraulic filter?

The hydraulic oil was changed at 62 hours and it only had 432 hours on it when this hose busted and I replaced the hose and did a filter/fluid change.

My response was to Curt M's post given the amount of stuff on the filters, and hence my comment "I would guess ..." since I don't know.
