Is it like this (from Op manual):

1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Make sure the shift levers are at NEUTRAL, and start the engine.
3. Set the PTO select lever to rear only position.
4. Set the PTO clutch lever to engage "ON".
5. Set the engine speed to provide recommended rear PTO speed.
6. Get off the tractor and place blocks at the tires

On the last two JDs, I could do all this standing on the ground with seat in place. On the 1st JD, I had to strap down the back of the seat.

Personal experience using pump or wood chipper?

It was actually dry enough yesterday to use the chipper again, but we had other things to do. Snowing now again.

On some models it also requires you to flip the seat up.

On my MX, you have to set the parking brake, then push the stationary pto button on the dashboard.

Do whatever the manual says, careful though...
On my other tractors I just pull lever back, PTO spins....factory fresh...NO stupid safety interlocks...

Between myself, my father, and my brother we have 5 tractors. Every one of them is at least slightly different on stationary PTO procedures. Do precisely whatever the Operator Manual says.

One of the very first things that I do upon taking delivery of a new tractor is to defeat the operator presence switch.

The rear PTO instructions in the operators manual do not work. Had to tilt the seat up against the steering wheel. Then the rear PTO could be used.
