I'd jump all over it asap before someone else does. And Gpruess could tell you if it can handle a 5footer or not, he's had an L185 for 30 years. You should be fine but I can say for 100%.

I never even got to see that one I mentioned previously. It was gone in 5 hours. However a l185 just came up for sale. It's a 2wd and comes with. Loader and bush hog. Guy wants 4200 for it and says it has 867 hours on it.

Is that a decent deal? Would this machine haul a 5' mower or hog?

Prices vary depending on region but that seems decent if the tractor and equipment are in good shape. I paid $3500 for mine with 1500 hrs., a 3 pt mower, 5' Woods 3 pt blade and a "like new" FL1200 4' rototiller. I pull a 5' L590 3 pt mower behind my L185 with no problems although it does grunt a little bit when I get in the tall, thick stuff. I think a 5' hog might be a bit much if its in the heavy stuff, but I can't say for sure.
The old L's are nice solid, simple tractors. The only thing I want to change about mine is some weight added to the front end, the steering gets real light when going up hill or climbing out of a ditch with that 5' mower hanging on the back.

Price sounds about right - especially with a loader.

I have a L185 and use a 4 foot Modern Ag cutter (417 pounds). That is about all I would use on it. I even added all 4 weights to the front end (220 pounds) and that made it fairly comfortable. Before it would not always steer really well and would plow straight forward when you turned too quickly.

I think it would power a 5 foot mower and if it was light enough you could use it but I also think it would stick out past the rear wheels on both sides.

I used a 5' Montgomery Ward brush hog with my L185DT for about 30 years. The L185 only has about 13-1/2 PTO HP. I could mow really light grass in 4th, moderate growth in 3rd, but had to use 1st or 2nd on the heavy stuff. I'm using the same mower with my L3200, and never have to get out of 4th gear.
In truth, the 185 just doesn't have the power to run a 5' hog. If your time is worth anything, go for bigger.

I looked at a Zenoh (sp) 4wd the other day. It's the same as an L185DT, I think. It ran pretty good, smoked a bit on startup, but I can't imaging that little guy hauling a 5' bush hog. Maybe a 5' finish mower....

He wanted 3k for it, but I really couldn't figure out how it worked because I'm too rusty on my Japanese. I could probably get the mower and his 4' bush hog for the 3k.

It didn't seem to have a live PTO, but again, my Japanese isn't good.

Nope no live pto on a L185.
