just changed transmission fluid and filters on my LX2610. When I added the 15 litres of udt as listed in the manual I get a dipstick reading that is above the crosshatched area. Is it normal to get a high reading after a change? Should I trust the dipstick or the manual? Interested in your thoughts

if you have owned the tractor since new and / or you can trust the dip stick is correct / oem..... I would then go with trusting dip stick.

its possible you did not due a complete fluid drain / maybe missed one of the dra9n bolts or tractor not flat?

Use the dipstick.
The listed capacity is for an empty unit, not an oil change.

Go by the dipstick!
You'll never get all the fluid out no matter which way you do it.
Since you've over filled it you need to drain off the overfill.
